FAQs
What’s the difference between a Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC®) and a lactation consultant/IBCLC??
I’m so glad you’re asking this question because it means that you are extremely thoughtful about the care that you and your baby receive! A Certified Lactation Counselor® (that’s me!) can support and help you walk through breastfeeding challenges. I can’t diagnose anything like tongue-tie or mastitis, nor can I prescribe medications or supplements. However, I can be your advocate and guide as you learn to breastfeed.
Why would I hire a postpartum doula (postnatal doula) for support? Can’t my friends and family just be those people for me?
In short, yes, they can! If you have supportive family and friends nearby, they are absolutely an integral part of your team and I encourage you to lean on them during the postpartum period. The difference is, I exist solely for mama as a doula after birth! Yes, I can hold your baby while you rest or help you both with breastfeeding, but my role is not as a family member or friend! I’m here to serve, help and walk with you on your postnatal journey, mentally, physically and emotionally.
Do you take insurance?
I do not. However, if cost is a deciding factor, let’s talk! I never want someone to walk alone in their postpartum journey. Everyone deserves support, regardless of income.
What’s your training and background?
In 2020 (thanks, pandemic!), I decided to leave my long career in marketing. I completed a lactation counselor and educator training through UC San Diego. In April 2022 after passing both clinical and didactic exams, I received my Certified Lactation Counselor® from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. I am in the process of completing my postpartum doula certification with Childbirth International. Click here for my certifications.
Additionally, at the very start of my career, I worked for DayOne Baby, where I became an expert on all things baby retail and supported the on-staff IBCLCs.
Can’t I just write my birth story myself? Why would I hire someone to do that?
You can! But you’ll probably find that your brain is foggy and time is precious during those first few weeks and months with your little one. As a professional writer with journalism training, I can help you parse out the details of your child’s birth (whether biological or not) and write a beautiful story.
What are your Enneagram and Meyer’s Briggs types?
This question makes me laugh, but I hope the response will be helpful as you make your decision. I am an Enneagram 6 with a 7 wing and an ISFP. I thrive on deep conversations over coffee, caring for others, and loyalty. I’m not the loudest person in the room, but I will listen well and care with all my heart.
